Modi vs Rahul vs Kejriwal

The below graph shows how twitter mentioned about rahul, arvind kejriwal and modi.

Rahul peaked when he gave the infamous interview to Arnab.
Arivind kejriwal peaked when he resigned as CM.
As you can see, his popularity went down from that point. It seems their biggest mistake was resignation in Delhi which has cost them dearly.
Another inference is that modi's popularity soared right after Kejriwal's popularity fell.

In another words, AAP supporters just jumped to Modi right after his protest in Rail Bhavan and his resignation.

Another graph which shows the Geo tweets i.e. location from where they were tweeted. It seems BJP has more tweets than votes in Kerala, West Bengal and Chennai :)
Same case with AAP too.

Modi vs Arnab - on Twitter

There were total of 43k tweets during that time frame

The above picture shows  how twitter reacted when Modi was giving interview to Arnab.
They y- axis depics tweets per minute (TPM) while x-axis depicts time line from 9 PM to 10.30 PM.

A big thanks to @vm1689 for painstakingly collecting the data.

It would have been better if we have similar graph for Rahul and Arvind's interview with Arnab.

However, somebody has done word count of Rahul's interview with Arnab. Enjoy :)

Coke-ism

Sometime ago, i asked a friend of mine why do you drink Coke.He replied he drank it for easy digestion. i asked this question to couple of people and all of them gave such erratic answers. The real answer is nobody knows why there are gulping down this beverage.

When Coke became popular in india a decade back, it was seen as an aspirational product. Now, it has become daily part of our lives. It has become part of our grocery list today. I often see people buying a couple of big coke bottles in their shopping buckets in super markets.Any 2 rs discount and these people buy couple of 2 litre bottles.

This habit is now passed on to next generation with every fridge in urban areas containing Coke. Some websites say that the main ingredient in Coca-Cola is phosphoric acid, which can dissolve a nail in four days. This alone causes eroding of the stomach lining, infiltrates bodily fluids, takes out calcium from the bones, changes the alkaline-acid balance of the kidneys and damages the liver.
Not to mention, Child obesity is attributed to soda intake.

The below picture depicts how much sugar cubes a bottle of coke contains

The below video from Coke senior executive talks about high sugar levels in coke
NEWSNIGHT: Paxman shows Coca Cola boss how much...

As far as my home is concerned, we strictly follow the policy of not at all buying soft beverages of any kind . Only , Narasu's coffee is allowed :)

When India dominated the world

Year 2014 has born and let's take a look into the indian economy during the last 2000 years.

Before plunging into the economics, let's try to understand Gross Domestic Product in simpler terms.

GDP (Y) is a sum of Consumption (C), Investment (I), Government Spending (G) and Net Exports (X – M).
Y = C + I + G + (X − M)
X represents Exports and M represents imports.
The following estimates are taken from the 2007 monograph "Contours of the World Economy, 1–2030 AD" by the British economist Angus Maddison. This report was accepted by OECD , an organisation which contains mostly developed countries as its members.

As you can see from the table, india dominated the world from 1 A.D to 1700 A.D. except during 1600 A.D.  India and China totally accounted for 50% of world GDP for 1700 years.
The start of industrial revolution in Europe and the subsequent colonization of the Asian giants crippled their economies in last 3 centuries.

The report further adds that GDP of  mighty Roman empire which ruled around 14 A.D. was  less than that of India and china.

25 years ago, Chinese GDP was 3.81 % of world GDP while indian GDP was 3.08%. Today, china's share of world GDP is around 14% while indian share is meagre 5.5%.

The Chinese dragon has bounced leaps and bounds while the Indian elephant has just now woke up from its deep slumber. It seems the wheels of indian democracy are moving slowly but surely.

AAP and the Mango man

A year back, he was called "a mango man in banana republic". Now, the mango man who literally came from zero,is today the Hero of Delhi - Arvind Kejriwal.
ArvindKejriwal2.jpg
He has literally scared the hell out of both the parties to such an extent that the party leader whom he defeated in election wants to give outside support to him and the biggest party in the assembly don't want him to be in opposition benches.

BJP yesterday: AAP don't want responsibility. they don't want to form government
BJP today: This is betrayal. they can't form government with congress

Congress day before yesterday: AAP is a no-man's party. In fact,it is not a party at all

Congress yesterday: Unconditional outside support
Congress today: Outside Support but with conditions.

Given that AAP will form the government, both Congress and BJP are eagerly waiting for him to fail so that they can push AAP out of picture in next elections. Even if there is any small negative news on AAP, the congress will blow it out of proportion and topple the government. The government may be difficult to last for more than 1 year.

Whether they are mature enough to handle this phenomenal success and whether they can handle the provocations aimed at them in the assembly (unlike our hero Vijayakanth)  are important parameters which may be critical to their sustainability in politics.

If AAP gains people confidence in short time , then they can anytime dissolve the assembly and go for elections and gain majority. The key to their success lies in implementing the Jan Lokpal bill and the reduction in power tariff. The majority of the population will be impacted and impressed by such schemes and their popularity will soar.

They can't afford state elections with loksabha elections since they may be swept aside in modi vs rahul battle.
The real battle for AAP begins now and whether they stamp their authority in this battle, only time will tell

Anand: A forgotten hero

"for performance of highest order in any field of human endeavour "

- This is how the government of the day defines India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.

At last , the hype surrounding Sachin's retirement has come to an end. The government, just like any tv channel trying to improve its TRP ratings, has tried to improve its ratings by awarding Bharat Ratna to Sachin Tendulkar,

The major question that comes to our minds is why Vishwanathan Anand was not awarded Bharat Ratna prior to Sachin. If the award has to be given to sports field, then why it has to be Sachin instead of Anand.

Anand break into international Chess arena when Chess was not even considered as a sport in India.Chess was completely dominated by Russians .Such was the Soviet dominance in Chess that they held the Championship title from 1975 to 2000. He was the lone indian Chess player for years.

He was India's first Grand Master. Thanks to him ,India has close to 40 grandmasters today.
He was the first recipient of India's highest Sporting honour - Rajiv Khel Ratna in 1991 . On a lighter tone, Sachin has not even scored an ODI century by then. Anand got India's second highest civilian honour - Padma Vibhushan in 2007 . Sachin got in 2008.

Anand remained in top 3 rankings for 12 continuous years from 1996-2008. Sachin was number 1 in cricket for years  but there were contenders for him at one point or another .

Anand may have lost the championship now,but he was a record 5-time champion. Both Sachin and Anand share clean image , gen-next inspirational icon and they are the undisputed heroes of their games. But India has a cricket base when sachin started and Sachin built on it and took Indian cricket to next level(along with some outstanding cricketers).
But for Anand, he built the base for Chess by himself and remains its only icon to this date.
